A new teaser for Top Gun: Maverick was published today (25) and the images reinforce that the classic Grumman F-14 Tomcat will face – and win – the fifth generation Russian Sukhoi Su-57. The video was posted on YouTube on the channel of a Slovenian cinema chain.
In the last trailer, Launched three weeks ago, the Russian stealth fighter made its first appearance, maneuvering against the F-14 manned by Rooster (Miles Teller) and Maverick (Tom Cruise). Now, the new 30-second teaser features some new footage not seen in other previews of the feature film.
The main scene is a nearly three-second clip in which the F-14 Tomcat fires a missile at the Su-57, which is already falling in flames.
We also see, for the first time, footage of the Tomcat's front , with Maverick's hand swinging the stick to the left. Interestingly, the weapon selector is in the “Gun” position, indicating that the combat would be a classic cannon dogfight. The F-14 carries a 61mm M20 Vulcan on the left side of the fuselage.
The previous frame, however, shows Maverick in the cockpit of an F/A-18.
Logically, these images were produced with computer graphics resources, since the F-14 has not flown in the United States since 2006 and Russia would not make its most modern fighter available for this.
Still, ground scenes with an F-14 were recorded. A good part of the takes with the F/A-18 Super Hornet are also real, as shown in the last video with the training of the actors.

Another interesting frame shows the view of the Super Hornet manned by Tom Cruise's character performing Pugachev's Cobra maneuver while firing flares (countermeasures for heat-guided missiles).
In addition to the presence of the F-14, which has appeared since the first trailer released in 2019, this scene has generated controversy among aviation and film enthusiasts as the Super Hornet, in theory, cannot perform the maneuver first performed by the Swedes. aboard the Saab Draken.
The stunt was named after Russian pilot Viktor Pugachev, who was the first to demonstrate the maneuver in a show, aboard the Su-27 Flanker in 1989.
However, the US naval jet has already performed similar maneuvers at air shows.
