A Omni Air Taxi has just reached yet another significant milestone. It became the first Brazilian civil company to receive certification from the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) for lifting loads and people (live loads) with a winch.
In Brazil, Omni maintains the S92 and AW139 model aircraft prepared to carry out missions in places that do not allow the aircraft to land safely, such as, for example, ships, maritime units, uninhabited land and jungle. This capability is crucial for rescue and rescue operations in emergency situations.
Marco Aurelio Bittencourt, Omni's Executive Operations Manager, sees the certification as a major step forward for the company. “In addition to the Brazilian Armed Forces (FFAA), with the helicopters of the SALVAMAR and SALVAERO services, we are the only operator capable of carrying out the rescue of patients in maritime units, when it is not possible to land due to the helideck being outside the operational limits of security,” he says.
Omni is also making a difference beyond Brazilian borders. In Guyana, where the company operates five S92 helicopters and one AW139, Omni is certified to carry out search and rescue operations (SAR – Search and Rescue, in English) for cargo and people. “One of the S92s is configured with three stretchers and a double winch, while the AW139 is configured with a stretcher and a single winch,” explains Bittencourt.
Gabriel Carvalho, Operations Analyst, comments that winch missions are special: “They require approved equipment [the winch itself] and properly trained and qualified personnel to ensure that all actions taken when carrying out the lift are safe and that those involved are protected. In addition to the pilots, rescuers and winch operators are involved”.
Obtaining this certification by Omni Táxi Aéreo reinforces its commitment to innovation and safety in its operations. The company continues to lead the way in Brazilian civil aviation, setting new standards of excellence and expanding possibilities for rescue and salvage operations.
