The ordinance that postpones the future deactivation of the aerodrome was signed this Wednesday (31) by the Minister of Infrastructure, Marcelo Sampaio, and will be published in the Official Gazette (DOU).

The measure amends Ordinance 1/2021 and revokes Ordinance 1.564/2021, which postponed the future deactivation of the aerodrome for May 1, 2022.

During this period, the terminal continues with normal activities and management remains under the responsibility of Infraero. After the new established date, the activities end and the land must return to the Union.

“We have extended the operation of Carlos Prates Airport as a way to respond to a demand from society in Belo Horizonte, which wants to expand the discussion on the destination of the terminal in the center of the capital of Minas Gerais”, said the Minister of Infrastructure.

The airport currently serves non-scheduled flights by air taxi and executive aviation companies, and also has maintenance and hangar services, in addition to fixed and rotary wing flight schools. Its infrastructure, however, is deficient and located in a region already served by two other airports, Confins and Pampulha.
