This last Friday (04/02) a claim for compensation was presented to the 5th Civil Court of the Judicial District of São Paulo involving the process of disappearance of the dog pandora, which was found last weekend at Guarulhos Airport after missing for 45 days.
Pandora's guardians requested compensation from GOL and GRU Airport of BRL 336, as material and moral damages, for the disappearance of the dog. Reinaldo Junior, owner of the animal, leads the action along with his lawyers.
In the action, GOL claimed that the dog destroyed the transport box, which is the probable reason for the escape. However, Reinaldo's lawyers point out that only the security seal was broken, and the box was intact.
Pandora was traveling in a special GOL transport box from Recife to Navegantes, in Santa Catarina, with a connection in Guarulhos.
GOL contracted a specialized company, which worked for 5 days in the searches for Pandora, however, the assistance for Reinaldo and in the searches ceased after this period.
The inclusion of GRU Airport in the process, according to the lawyers, is due to the difficulty in accessing footage from the location, and also due to the employees, who tried to recover the animal “without so much energy”. One of the footage presented by the concessionaire shows that a GRU Airport car arrives after Pandora, the employees disembark from the vehicle, however, they give up immediately after “running after the dog”.

“The Defendants' negligence and omission that led Pandora to flee and, even more, to be lost for 45 days to be located inside the airport itself, suffering from malnutrition, as well as the material and moral damages caused to the Plaintiffs, must be investigated in this demand that the Defendants be sentenced to full compensation for damages, as will be determined below”, said the lawyers in the request to justice.
The dog Pandora was found 45 days later inside the Cargo Terminal at Guarulhos Airport, and returned to its owner, Reinaldo Junior.
“We were very happy to find Pandora. Finding it is proof that the persistence of all of us was worth it. We will now fight for ability for those involved, for Pandora's health, and to ensure this doesn't happen again. Airlines need to respect animals and dignify air travel for all.”, declared lawyer Leandro Petraglia, who was advising Reinaldo on the case.
In a note to O Globo, GRU Airport said that “has not yet been notified and will be manifested in the case records. The concessionaire clarifies that, for legal and security reasons, it can only authorize access to the airport and images upon request by the competent authorities. Finally, it reinforces that the responsibility for transporting and handling animals lies with the airlines”.
GOL, which issued a statement after the case was reported in the media, said it will not comment on the case that is being resolved in court.
