The National Tax Policy Council of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Confaz) authorized the reduction of ICMS on aviation kerosene (QAV) from 12% to 7%.
According to the state government, this measure will boost the policy of attracting new flights to Rio de Janeiro. Previously, the application for adherence to agreement 188 had been blocked four times at Confaz.
The novelty was published in this Thursday's (25/07) edition of the Official Gazette and was celebrated by Governor Wilson Witzel, who worked intensely for the feasibility of the approval.
The State Secretariats for Tourism and Finance have already started studies and negotiations with the tourist trade and the airline sector, seeking to generate more jobs and revenue for the State. The measure is valid for new flights and is a booster of economic activity.
For the Secretary of Tourism, Otavio Leite, it was a victory in the “race”: “Now we have a strategic instrument to advance in the expansion of flights, which arrive and depart from Rio de Janeiro, which is essential for the growth in tourist demand. The benefit, in practice, will be realized through the introduction of new frequencies in Rio de Janeiro – emphasizes Otavio Leite.”
According to a study by the Brazilian Association of Airlines (Abear), aviation kerosene is equivalent to 30% of airline costs.
