RIOgaleão received this Thursday, 02/05, the inaugural flight of Atlas Air, an airline specialized in large special cargo. For the first time, the company is starting a fixed weekly frequency route at Rio de Janeiro International Airport that departs from Miami (USA) to Rio de Janeiro (BR), and then goes to Santiago (CL) finally returning to Miami (MIA/GIG/SCL/MIA). Atlas is one of the largest cargo operating companies in the world and has the largest fleet of Boeing family aircraft, the 747 jumbo, which has the capacity to transport up to 100 tons per trip.
Currently, RIOgaleão has two regular freighter routes. Latam, which operates between Rio and Miami, operates twice a week. Cargolux, which operates between Rio and Luxembourg, operates once a week. To attract the company, the concessionaire that manages the airport also had the institutional of FIRJAN, the Secretariat of Urban and Economic Development of the city of Rio de Janeiro and GE Aerospace, which has a turbine maintenance operation at Galeão and within the State.
Jumbo 747 benefits international e-commerce logistics

Boeing's Jumbo 747 model is designed to carry large loads. The aircraft has an opening at the nose, which allows the entry of larger equipment. The route and type of aircraft also increase international e-commerce. The sector has been facing changes since the change in the Compliance Shipping law and large international operators have shown interest in operating in distribution logistics in Brazil.
