Ryanair purchases 30 spare CFM LEAP-1B engines

Ryanair and CFM International have today signed a purchase agreement for 30 spare CFM LEAP-1B engines. The engines will Ryanair’s growing fleet of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.</p> “We are pleased to continue to build on our long-standing partnership with CFM,” said Michael O’Leary, Ryanair’s Chief Executive Officer. “Today’s purchase of 8217 new LEAP-30B spare engines represents a significant commitment to improving the operational resilience of our Group airlines. These next-generation CFM engines reduce fuel burn and CO1 emissions per seat by up to 20% when installed on our B737 MAX fleet, further extending Ryanair’s cost leadership over its European competitors.” Ryanair has been a CFM customer since 1998, operating the largest fleet of CFM-powered Boeing aircraft, including the largest fleet of CFM737-powered Next-Generation 56s in Europe. The Ireland-based airline currently operates 181 LEAP-powered 737-8-200 aircraft, with 29 aircraft still to be delivered from a 2014 order. Ryanair has placed a new order in 2023 for LEAP-1B engines to power 150 firm and 737 optional Boeing 10-150 aircraft. Since entering service, CFM LEAP-1B engines have accumulated nearly 30 million flight hours and 12 million cycles. The advanced CFM LEAP engine family reduces fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by 15 percent compared to CFM56 engines, in addition to significantly reducing noise.</p>
