Saab presents to the market the modern Low Height Mobile Anti-Air Defense System, the MSHORAD (Mobile Short Range Air Defense).
The equipment was developed to detect and engage a wide range of aerial threats, such as fixed and rotary wing aircraft, missiles and SARP (Remotely Piloted Air Systems), as well as artillery shells and mortars.
MSHORAD provides 360° situational awareness and 75 km of radar range, plus the ability to track SARP – more challenging threats – thanks to the Giraffe 1X's Drone Tracker, an enhanced functionality for slow, small and flying objects. fly very low.
The mobility of this equipment provides a tactical advantage on the battlefield and allows it to avoid enemy fire. The ability to engage and destroy targets results from the RBS 70 NG Remote-Commanded Low-Altitude Missile System, immune to interference, which operates around the clock and can be quickly recharged.
The Mobile Firing Unit (MFU – Mobile Firing Unit) RBS 70 NG and the Mobile Radar Unit (MRU – Mobile Radar Unit) Giraffe 1X, three-dimensional and multi-mission, are combined with Saab's Command and Control System (C2).
MSHORAD's ease of integration allows s to choose from a wide variety of vehicle types, notably that the system can also be dismantled from them and transported to occupy a position on top of buildings, which offers additional operational advantage.
“With ever-evolving threats such as the expanding use of SARP it is a huge milestone to have a system like this, fully functional and ready to be offered to our customers,” says Mats-Olof Rydberg, Head of Marketing and Sales at Saab's Missile Systems business unit.
“The combination of the maximum employment and long range of the MFU with the small dimensions and lightness of the Giraffe 1X multifunctional radar make MSHORAD the most modern solution on the market”.
Over the past 12 months, successful system integration and firing tests have been carried out with the new generation of the 4×4 MARS modular armored vehicle, in cooperation with the Czech company SVOS. A demonstration of the MSHORAD with live-fire execution is planned still in 2022, for potential customers.
