Saab is negotiating a second batch of Gripen NG fighter jets with the Brazilian Government, according to statements by the chief executive, Hakan Buskhe, during an annual results presentation on February 15th.
“We are discussing a new batch [of fighter jets] for Brazil”, Buskhe said, though he did not provide further details on the number of fighters involved in a second batch.
The first batch ordered by the Brazilian government comprises 36 Gripen NG fighters, an evolved 4th generation attack aircraft, based on the Gripen E that shares the same platform.
Probably the decision on a new batch of Gripen NG fighters may come out by 2022, still under the current government.
