The Municipality's investment is R$ 466.641,61 in internal adaptations. The layout remodeling process serves to increase enger processing capacity.

The work will result in the expansion of the number of seats in the departure lounge – from 70 to 112 plus a space for people with disabilities – and in the creation of a new service counter with three counters for GOL Linhas Aéreas, which will start operating flights between Santa Maria and São Paulo from November. Tickets are already on sale on the company's website. The flights will operate with Guarulhos Airport.

The financial resources are made possible via a compensatory measure from the company Pampeiro, which hired BK Construções to carry out the service. The construction company has already started setting up the construction site near the Airport. The deadline for completing the remodeling is 60 consecutive business days.

“It is yet another investment that places Santa Maria as the gateway to the central region of the State. Santa Maria advances, and the Airport is essential to connect our Municipality with the rest of the country and the world. Therefore, we have to have the structure to receive new engers, since the demand tends to increase a lot”, explains Deputy Mayor Rodrigo Decimo.

To make the improvements possible, there will be demolition and reconstruction of internal dividing walls and change of location of the accreditation rooms, Azul Cargo Express and the baggage handling room. The power grid, internet and data network and telephony will also be reinforced. There will be no interruption in the operation of the Airport during the works.

The next stage of the Santa Maria Airport Sustainable Development Plan is to expand the physical area – the site will triple in size. These works will be funded by resources guaranteed by the City Hall with the Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SAC) and with funds from the Financing of Infrastructure and Sanitation (Finisa) and will be based on projects that are being prepared by Infraero.
