See which were the busiest airports in Brazil in early 2022

The first months of the year are known for intense tourist activity, with several different routes launched by airlines specifically to cater for enger traffic during this period.

In all, ANAC s for a movement of approximately 14 million engers at all Brazilian airports, whether on international or national flights. THE LATAM was the company that carried the most engers, with 31% of the total market, while GOL got 30% and the BLUE with almost 27%.

Despite that amount, demand is still 25% below 2019 data, when the Brazilian aviation market peaked.

And based on all this movement in the first months, differentiated by the tourist appeal, we present to our audience the 10 busiest in the first two months of 2022.

all data below are taken from ANAC, and refer to the months of January and February 2022.

 

1 – Guarulhos Airport

As always, Guarulhos Airport is once again the busiest in Brazil, as it is an important hub for domestic and international flights. Were 5,81 million engers who ed through the terminal in the first two months of 2022.

On domestic flights, the terminal handled 3,86 million engers in January and February 2022. A total of 35721 takeoffs and landings took place at Guarulhos Airport.

In 2021 Guarulhos Airport transported 23,6 million engers.

2 – Congonhas Airport

In 4th position in 2021, Congonhas Airport gained new flights at the end of 2021 and beginning of 2022, and is now in second position, after receiving 2,35 million engers in the first 60 days of the year. Only domestic flights operate there.

A total of 18779 landings and takeoffs were performed at Congonhas Airport.

In 2021 Congonhas Airport was responsible for transporting 9,43 million engers.

 

3 – Brasilia Airport

Continuing as an important hub in the center-south of Brazil, Brasília Airport ranked 3rd after 2,16 million engers through the terminal. Of these, 33 were on international flights only.

A total of 16217 landings and takeoffs were performed at Brasília Airport.

In 2021, Brasília Airport was responsible for transporting 10,3 million engers.

 

4 – Viracopos Airport (Campinas)

Main site of operations for Azul Linhas Aéreas, the famous Viracopos Airport (Campinas) had a good performance at the beginning of 2022, ing 1,61 million engers who ed through the place.

By regional operation and with cargo aircraft, Viracopos ed more landings and takeoffs than in Brasília, with 16870 operations.

In 2021, Viracopos Airport was responsible for transporting 9,75 million engers, ranking 3rd overall for the year.

 

5 – Recife Airport

In addition to being Azul's hub, Recife is an important airport for accessing tourist attractions in Northeast Brazil. For this reason, the terminal ranked 5th, after transporting 1,43 million engers, with almost 18 thousand on international flights.

The only runway at the Recife terminal received around 2022 takeoffs and landings throughout January and February 11800.

In 2021 Recife Airport was responsible for transporting 7,34 million engers, also ranking 5th overall for the year.

 

6 – Confins Airport (Belo Horizonte)

Another important Azul hub is featured in our TOP 10 for the first two months of 2022. This is Confins Airport (MG), which transported 1,36 million engers between January and February.

The only runway in Confins received around 2022 landings and takeoffs throughout January and February 12565.

In 2021, Confins Airport was responsible for transporting 6,65 million people, also ranking 7th overall for the year.

 

 

7 – Santos Dumont Airport (RJ)

The beautiful carioca terminal confirmed the preference of its engers in the middle of summer, closing the first two months of 2022 with 1,26 million engers ing through Santos Dumont Airport.

Like Congonhas, Santos Dumont Airport is not authorized for international commercial flights. For this reason, we only have movement data for the domestic market.

There were almost 11670 planes taking off and landing at Santos Dumont Airport in the first 60 days of the year. In 2021 the terminal received 6,67 million engers.

 

8 – Salvador Airport

Also benefiting from tourism, and from the numerous connections to cities in the northeast from the terminal, Salvador Airport ended the first 60 days of 2022 with an amount of 1,19 million engers attended.

International flights, such as TAP, handled 22628 engers in Salvador between January and February, practically half the number of people ed in 2021.

Salvador Airport received exactly 2022 landings and takeoffs throughout January and February 9600. In 2021, the Bahian terminal received 5,3 million engers.

 

9 – Galeao Airport

ing an impressive growth in enger traffic, Galeão Airport returned to the TOP 10 after moving one million and 135 thousand people in the first months of 2022, in the middle of Rio's summer.

For the growth we can credit the return of international flights, which put Galeão in 2nd place after moving more than 313 thousand engers until the end of February.

Galeão received around 2022 landings and takeoffs throughout January and February 8000. The number below in the comparison with Salvador is due to the airlines' preference for operating with larger planes.

10 – Fortaleza Airport

It is undeniable to point out that Fortaleza is also an important tourist city in the northeast. Connection point for GOL and LATAM flights, the terminal moved almost 1 million engers between January and February 2022.

There were 7088 landings and takeoffs carried out at the site, which handled 24756 engers on international flights alone, such as TAP and Air .

In 2021, the terminal received approximately 3,89 million engers, also ranking 10th.
