The Senate plenary approved this Tuesday (23) the law project which changes the name of Goiânia Airport – Santa Genoveva to Goiânia International Airport – Íris Rezende Machado (PL 3.999/2021). The matter goes on for analysis and voting in the Chamber of Deputies.
The proposed change is a tribute to Íris Rezende Machado (1933-2021), a politician who died earlier this month. He was a councilor, state representative and senator. He also held the positions of Mayor of Goiânia, Governor of Goiás, Minister of Agriculture in the government of José Sarney and Minister of Justice in the government of Fernando Henrique Cardoso.
The author of the project is Senator Luiz do Carmo (MDB-GO). Senator Vanderlan Cardoso (PSD-GO) was the rapporteur for the matter.
Luiz do Carmo stated that “the purpose of this tribute is to thank Íris Rezende for the great contribution she made to the Brazilian nation, for the zeal, love and perseverance she had in taking care of the affairs of her homeland, the beloved state of Goiás”.
Vanderlan Cardoso, in turn, said that Íris Rezende “has always stood out for his excellent public management and is recognized, in the state of Goiás, as a man who managed to gather the virtues of a good politician”.
“His legacy in the struggle for democracy and the defense of the poorest will always be ed by those who had the joy of having known him”, declared Vanderlan.
