Seven airports managed by CCR will have solar farms in 2025

CCR Aroportos energy farm solar states Brazilians

From 2025, seven airports managed by CCR Aeroportos in five states will start generating solar energy with the capacity to generate, in total, 40 thousand kilowatts per year. The company has just signed a contract with the companies Volteon and Atuação Energia, which will install solar farms on land within airport units and sell them on the free energy market. Works will begin in the first half of 2024.

Solar farms will be installed at Curitiba Airports (CWB), in Paraná; ville (JOI), in Santa Catarina; Bagé (BGX), Pelotas (PET) and Uruguaiana (URG), in Rio Grande do Sul; Palmas (PMW), in Tocantins; and Petrolina (PNZ), in Pernambuco, totaling 750 thousand square meters of land.

Solar farms are large areas with photovoltaic s that capture sunlight and convert it into electrical energy, distributed to homes and commercial establishments. At CCR airport sites, they will be positioned in delimited areas so as not to harm routine activities.

For the CEO of CCR Aeroportos, Fabio Russo, the initiative is in line with what has been developed in other terminals managed by the company. “We manage airports in Brazil and abroad recognized by environmental preservation guidelines, such as BH Airport, in Confins/BH, Quiport, in Ecuador, and Juan Santamaria, in Costa Rica. The installation of solar farms is a step forward in this direction.”

The Executive Retail Manager at CCR Aeroportos, Monique Henriques, says that the project is also innovative in nature. “By enabling the use of areas at seven airports for the development of sustainable technology, we are talking about the convergence of two traditionally distinct sectors – aviation and renewable energy. This approach, in addition to being innovative, demonstrates a response to environmental demands,” she comments.

It is the first time that an airport concessionaire has launched a project of this nature in several airports simultaneously. “There will be approximately 6.300 solar s per airport, totaling approximately 44.000 across the seven units”, explains Daiwydson Nascimento, engineer responsible for the companies Volteon and Atuação.

The amount of energy generated at each airport will be capable of serving approximately 1.200 homes. “We believe that the initiative to produce solar energy at CCR airport sites will give greater visibility to the use of clean and renewable energy, a trend abroad and one that is consolidating in Brazil”, says Marcelo Morais, from Volteon.
