A pair of Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter jets were called in around 09:20 am local time on Saturday (11) to intercept an aircraft later identified as a Malaysian Police AW139 helicopter. The aircraft would have inadvertently entered Singaporean airspace.

In a statement, the Singapore Ministry of Defense said the fighter jets had returned to base after ensuring that security was not compromised. Netizens claimed that the was a Leonardo AW139 helicopter of the Royal Malaysian Police.

While transporting the Director of the Malaysian National Security Council on a visit to the Abu Bakar Maritime Base, the Malaysian helicopter ended up entering Singaporean airspace, flying over the island of Pulau Tekong, which the Singaporean armed forces use as a training site. .
On Facebook, the Malaysian Police stated that they were aware of messages about the incident and that their helicopter flew close to Singapore airspace during official duties, but also noted that they were not notified by Singapore aviation authorities that the helicopter had entered in airspace.
