SpaceX has begun negotiations with authorities in Australia and the United States to begin operations off the Australian coast.
According to Reuters, the negotiation is a reflection of Elon Musk's plans to increase his presence in Oceania, but it directly depends on other points, such as the loosening of US export controls on space technologies.
With this, SpaceX intends to launch Starship from its facility in Texas, but recovering the rocket off the coast of Australia, with no details yet on which coast would be most viable for recovery.
Still in the discussion phase regarding regulatory obstacles, SpaceX still needs to carry out a recovery test in Australia, with tests in the oceans before moving on to the same procedure on land.
Currently, the Starship rocket has been SpaceX's big bet as a next generation product, being another option compared to the reusable Falcon 9. Starship impresses with its size (120 meters), as well as its ability to launch large batches of satellites into space , being capable of transporting astronauts and military cargo.
