Spain receives its first A330-200 ex-Iberia

A330 200 Spain MRTT

The Spanish Air Force (Ejercito del Aire) received on Monday (30) the first of three Airbus A330-200 jets.

Designated T.24, the jet arrived at Torrejón Air Base still in the enger configuration, as used by airline iberia before being acquired by the Spanish Government. The jet will be operated by 45 Grupo/Escuadron 452. 

In 2024, the A330 will be shipped to the Airbus Defense facility in Getafe, where it will be converted to standard MRTT. According to Key Aero, the A330 will be designated as the TK-24 after the conversion and will carry out aerial refueling missions for Spanish and allied forces.

The first A330 with TK-24 configuration is due to be delivered to the Spanish Air Force in 2023 and the third in 2025. Before the MRTT conversion, the first aircraft will be capable of carrying 288 engers and 35 tonnes of cargo. It will also have aeromedical evacuation capacity.

The contract between Airbus and the Spanish Air Force it was made official on November 12 of this year.
