The hands of the clock marked 05:00 in the morning, when the queue of spotters who would participate in the 4th Spotter Day at Brasília Airport, a pioneering event in the Brazilian aeronautical sector, began. Logically I was among the first in line.
The cold was already present from the moment our team was moving to the airport, and it denounced that it would not be easy to face it outside the car heater and in the large open space of Brasília Airport. Sleep was already announcing its name, in fact, the last time I had woken up was at 09 am on Thursday, I decided to continue without a break for the traditional coffee.
But the queue continued, then 150 people were taken to two buses, which made a beautiful tour of the airport patio, at this time of the morning full of aircraft ready to start the day's flights. The Spotting point was already known to everyone, it was on the side of the U taxiway, more or less orthogonal to the middle of the 3300-meter runway, named 11R-29L due to the com coordinates, a standard we use in aviation to define where the The head of a runway is “pointed”.
Indeed I was right, this year was colder compared to previous editions.
Everything seemed a bit the same, at least for those who had participated in the three previous editions, but Spotter Day in Brasília always reveals surprises, from the GOL Boeing 737-800 that decided to make a different maneuver on the taxiway, just for the photos, as by the people present at the event. This was a different point, the presence of several Spotters from outside Brasilia, there was even a visitor from Buenos Aires, who won a trip to the event by participating in the Spotter Day at the Buenos Aires Airport.
From 06:10 to 00:100 there were more than 11 landings and takeoffs through runway 4R, an almost exclusive privilege of this 11th edition, which used a NOTAM on runway 29L-80R to forward practically XNUMX% of the aircraft to takeoff and landing on the other runway .
Afterwards, this whole group went to Brasília Air Base, today known as ALA 1, to visit the aircraft of the squadrons based there and also for the Coffee Break that marked the end of the event.
We took advantage of this whole period to take most of the beautiful photos that you can see below, in addition to that we produced a special article, talking with the Outside Spotters and with Gabriel Melo, who explained a little more about the “solidarity” theme of the event.
