Nervous, curious and anxious for the new experience, 60 students from Colégios da Polícia Militar de Goiás (PMGO) flew for the first time in the KC-390 Millennium, the tactical and logistical aircraft of the Brazilian Air Force (FAB).
The group departed last Thursday (4th) from Anápolis Air Base (BAAN) to the Air Force Academy (AFA), FAB Military Organization located in Pirassununga (SP).
“At first I was a little nervous, yes, because it's something different, but now I'm calmer, I see that it's pretty cool”, said student Kayllane Vitória Lopes Monteiro, from Colégio Militar Domingos de Oliveira.
The visit was conceived by Federal Deputy Vitor Hugo and coordinated by the Parliamentary Advisory Office of the Air Force Commander (ASPAER), represented by the Institutional Relations Advisor, Lieutenant-Colonel Rodrigo Fernandes Nascimento, with the aim of introducing students to the training system for Aviation Officers , Intendestes and Air Force Infantry.
Deputy Vitor Hugo explained that the visit is a continuation of the existing project in the State of Goiás to integrate students from the Military Schools with the Institutions. “As I am the president of the Parliamentary Front in of Military Education in Brazil, we had the idea of bringing them. This year, I asked the Commander of the Air Force for authorization so that we could bring the top finishers from each military school in Goiás here”, commented the parliamentarian.
During the visit, students, representatives of the Teaching Command and the Association of Parents, Teachers and Employees (APMF) of PMGO Colleges got to know the Academy's facilities up close, such as the First and Second Squadrons of Air Instruction and the Squadron of Air Demonstration, the Esquadrilha da Fumaça, in addition to participating in the daily parade of the Corps of Cadets.
The AFA Commander, Air Brigadier Marcelo Gobett Cardoso, highlighted that the moment strengthens the institutional relationship of the Armed Forces with the Singular Forces. “For us, at the Air Force Academy, it is a unique opportunity to receive them and show a little of the AFA and the Air Force and, above all, to motivate them to a military career, in the Armed Forces and, in particular, in the Air Force. Brazilian Air”, said.
In another moment, the students were able to follow the shower of the first solo flight of one of the Institution's cadets, one of the most anticipated events for the student.
The delegation also got to know the Flight Training Devices based on Virtual Reality (VR) technology. This technology, adopted by the Air Forces of several countries, allows greater immersion in a three-dimensional environment in flight situations.
At the end of the meeting, the Deputy Commander of Teaching of the PMGO, Lieutenant-Colonel Tairos Ciloé de Oliveira, classified the visit as fruitful.
“Today, the State of Goiás has 62 Military Police colleges and I learned that, unfortunately, we only have seven representatives here in the Corps of Cadets. Our intention is to motivate these young people for such a beautiful career”, commented.
And if the objective was to motivate, the result could not be better. Student Ellen Ribeiro Guimarães has already announced that her goal now is to be a doctor for the Brazilian Air Force. “The visit was incredible, I didn't expect all of what I'm seeing here. I can't see myself flying a plane, because I'm a little afraid of heights, but I want to study medicine and, if all goes well, who knows, I might not be able to work here”, he concluded.
Brazilian Air Force Academy
The future leaders of the Air Force, the FAB cadets, are trained at the AFA. The teaching entity, known as “Ninho das Águias”, was already headquartered in Campo dos Afonsos (RJ), when it was initially created under the name of Escola de Aeronáutica, in 1941, by Decree nº 3.142.
After more than 10 thousand Aspirants trained, the concern with the use of new teaching methods, the use of a virtual learning environment, the redefinition of the simulated flight training system and the modernization of the T-27 Tucano aircraft are examples of actions that aim to ensure that the trained Aspirant fulfills with excellence the mission of controlling, defending and integrating the 22 million km² under the responsibility of the Brazilian Air Force.
