The company increased the number of electric vehicles (eGSE) from 925 to 2.430, including cargo lifters and aircraft push back tractors.

“As a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact, Swissport is committed to the principles of responsible business. We integrate sustainability into our decision-making”, said Eric Born, President and CEO of Swissport International AG. “Recently, sustainable business contributes to positive outcomes and value creation by increasing our flexibility to invest in environmentally friendly equipment and social issues. With our ambitious multi-year fleet modernization programme, Swissport will further raise the share of electric vehicles to at least 50% by 2025 and continue to reduce its carbon footprint.”

Part of the total ground equipment investment (GSE) is for the introduction of telematics systems in our global fleet. Telematics optimizes the use of the equipment and contributes to the reduction of fuel consumption.

By investing in eGSE, electrical equipment, we can reduce fossil fuel consumption and carbon footprint by more than 40% in some airports, avoiding harmful emission of pollutants and noise pollution, creating a healthier work environment for the team .

At Swissport, sustainability is integrated into strategic and operational objectives. The company is currently preparing to implement a new environmental management system for the entire group, and this will be ready in 2020.

While bringing obvious environmental benefits, this helps Swissport create value. Continually improving sustainable service delivery also benefits customers, airlines, in their own sustainability profiles.
