While the price of a barrel of oil continues to increase every day, the president of TAP Air Portugal, Christine Ourmières-Widener, declared during a meeting that the rise in the price of kerosene will generate an additional impact of 300 million euros for the airline.
This will be the added value of the company's operating cost, which will rise. TAP had previously stated that it expected to partially offset this impact with higher company revenue. Until the end of the year there are no expectations of cost reduction.
Despite the high operating costs, Christine declared that the company's recovery plan will continue to be implemented, and is already showing good results.
“We anticipate an impact of around 300 million euros with the rise in fuel prices. We are trying to mitigate this cost, adding fuels that will allow mitigation and other measures”, said Christine Ourmières-Widener at the Economy, Public Works, Planning and Housing Committee of the Assembly of the Republic of Portugal.
“The [restructuring] plan will create a new and rejuvenated TAP, which will give us the results we want”, commented Christine on the recovery process.
The company is still facing challenges, however, such as the lack of workers, fleet limitations to expand flights and also operational limitations at Humberto Delgado Airport, which has not yet completed its expansion works. For this reason, in the next few days TAP should open vacancies for flight attendants (cabin crew), in order to be able to increase the offer of seats in the summer period.
