The sky over Rio Grande do Sul will be full of aircraft in the coming days, amid a simulated aerial war. Another edition of the t Exercise (EXCON) Tínia has begun, combat training conducted by Brazilian Air Force (FAB) and with the participation of the Brazilian Army and Brazilian Navy. Held between 30/10 and 17/11 at the Canoas and Santa Maria air bases, in Rio Grande do Sul, the combat training brings together more than 1200 military personnel
Held annually since 2019, Tínia is one of the FAB's largest military operations, bringing together air units from across the country, as well as organizations from other armed forces. This year's edition will feature 30 fighter, attack, transport, reconnaissance and rotary wing aircraft, as well as the First, Second and Third Anti-Aircraft Defense Groups (1st, 2nd and 3rd GDAAE).

During the operation, soldiers are trained in the concept of composite air missions (COMAO), operating in a tactical, fictitious, dynamic and complex scenario, where a series of air and land assets are operating at the same time. Simulating a conventional war against a fictional country, participants must maintain airspace sovereignty, as well as carry out attacks on enemy territory.
“This exercise is very important because it puts into practice everything we have worked on throughout the year. Not only the aerial part, of course, but all the infrastructure and , especially with the recovery of a lot of capacity at the Canoas Air Base”, explains Air Major Brigadier Marcelo Fornasiari Rivero, Commander of the Fifth Regional Air Command (V COMAR).

During the almost 20 days of training, the military will carry out a series of activities on the territory of Rio Grande do Sul. These missions include Air-Ground Assault, In-Flight Attack, Control and Alarm, Anti-Air Defense, Cyber Defense, Aerospace Communications Post, In-Flight Refueling, Aerospace Reconnaissance, Air Resupply, Installation Security, Suppression of Enemy Anti-Air Defense, Logistics Air Transport and Scan.
The following aircraft will be used:
- F-5M Tiger II fighters, AMX A-1M and A-29 Super Tucano;
- Transport aircraft and logistical C-95M Bandeirante, C-99, C-105 Amazonas, KC-130 Hércules and KC-390 Millennium;
