This amount is equivalent to ticket sales in the United States alone, and Paramount also said that the expectation is to close Monday with a total collection of US$ 150 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $248 million.

That haul makes Top Gun: Maverick the biggest US movie opening, when we exclude movies involving superheroes.

A total of 4735 North American theaters are showing “Top Gun: Maverick”. Around the world there are 23600 movie theaters showing the film daily in 62 countries.

The highest grossing at the box office in the USA, before Top Gun, was the film “War of the Worlds”, by Steven Spielberg and released in 2005. The feature film grossed US$ 64 million in its first week of exhibition in theaters.

The amount collected at the box office also shows that it was an excellent decision by Paramount to release the film in the post-pandemic. Top Gun: Maverick was scheduled to debut in 2020, but the risk of coronavirus contamination has delayed its arrival in theaters several times.

According to Fortune, Paramount had to shell out $11374 for every flight hour on each F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter. The payment was made to the US Navy, as compensation for the use of the aircraft. For pilot training footage the US Navy does not charge this compensation.

The requirement for real scenes came from Tom Cruise, to record the sequel to Tom Gun: Indomitable Wings. The total budget of the feature film is US$ 152 million.
