The USA even with fifth generation aircraft within the air force, still has old aircraft, but still of great value, and one of these aircraft is the famous F-15, a fighter that broke paradigms due to the good performance of the aircraft to be used in several scenarios.
But the USAF is already studying the retirement of the classic F-15, and these conversations were taken to the US Senate, an idea that was taken by the deputy head of the USAF, Lieutenant General Jerry Harris.
He inquired with the Senate that the new Lockheed Martin F-35A fighters are capable of replacing the legendary D-version F-15. Another replacement alternative is a fighter already used by the USAF, the F-16 Flight Falcon, the single-engine Lockheed also has specials, and the fleet of F-16s belonging to the USA is not small.
But even other old aircraft, such as the F-15C, the A-10 and the F-16 itself can enter this retirement process and the fighter that would replace these would be the aforementioned F-35. The idea of the F-16 replacing the F-15 would be temporary until the new F-35s were ready to finally the USAF.
At the same time, due to the excellent qualities of the F-15, especially the C/E version, an upgrade of the EPAWSS (Eagle ive Active Warning Survivability System) is also being considered, which would improve the useful life of the fighters, but not for long. .
Given this scenario, it is clear that even though the useful life of this military aviation icon is coming to an end, the US still understands that with updates to the fourth generation fighter that has served in the US since the 70s, it can still give a little more of the capabilities operational.
