USS Gerald Ford receives first E-2D Advanced Hawkeye

The USS Gerald Ford is in the midst of sea trials and for the first time has received the operation of the US Navy's newest airborne warning aircraft, the E-2D Tracer, belonging to Air Command and Control Squadron (VAW) 120 " Greyhawks”.

The aircraft tested the vessel's new magnetic catapult system, which is one of the highlights of this giant of the North American fleet.

O E-2D Advanced Hawkeye is the most recent version of the already known E-2 Hawkeye, according to the Def Post website, aircraft features an all-new avionics suite, including the new AN/APY-9 active AESA (electronically scanned array) radar, radio suite, mission computer, integrated satellite communications. 

Already USS Gerald Ford continues its trials in the Atlantic Ocean, the vessel marks the beginning of a new class of super aircraft carrier that bears the Ford name, following the tradition of naming aircraft carriers after former presidents.

However, the US fleet still has aircraft carriers of the well-known Nimitz class, which still sail across the globe.
