The resumption of the tourism sector is one of the main bets to improve the economic situation. A survey carried out by ViajaNet, virtual tourism agency, highlighted some of the main national and international destinations to spend Christmas 2021.

Among the top three destinations in the national ranking are São Paulo (12,4%), Rio de Janeiro (6,6%) and Salvador (6,3%), which are widely sought after capitals. Returning to “normal life” was no different.

“São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Salvador are very dear destinations and sought after by Brazilians during the end of year festivities. This is because, despite being very different, the three cities unite very important points: they are metropolises, with urban attractions, and they also have destinations for nature – the beautiful beaches of Salvador and Rio de Janeiro say so. But São Paulo is also not far behind: it is possible to go on trails to waterfalls and discover the green areas of the capital of São Paulo”, explains Daniely de Oliveira, Communication Manager at ViajaNet.

As for international destinations, still according to a survey, the top three in the ranking were the following: New York (USA), with 13,4%, Lisbon (Portugal), with 10,8%, and Santiago (Chile), with 7,7%.

The most popular international destinations are very different from each other, including in of local languages and cultures. New York, known worldwide as one of the largest metropolises in the world, offers a multitude of tourist attractions ranging from parties and shops in the large urban center to the famous Central Park.

Lisbon, on the other hand, has a great advantage: as a European city more focused on tourism, the Portuguese capital does not lag behind in offering historic tourist attractions; beaches and restaurants are also a highlight of Lisbon – but it is important to note that, in December, it is winter in Europe, and also in the United States.

Santiago is very similar to São Paulo and New York: more urban, although it also concentrates points where it is possible to connect with nature. Historic attractions and famous restaurants can be part of the package. As it is closer to Brazil, it ends up being a shorter and worthwhile travel option.

Perspectives for New Year's travel are similar

ViajaNet also analyzed the purchase of airline tickets for the New Year's Eve period and the plans of Brazilians for the festive date are similar to Christmas. With regard to national destinations, São Paulo continues to lead the ranking, with 12,2%. However, in second place, we have Recife (7,3%), followed by Salvador (6,8%). For this holiday, Rio de Janeiro fell to fourth position (6,2%).

With regard to international destinations, the survey shows that interest in Santiago has grown for the New Year, compared to Christmas. On the holiday of December 25, the Chilean city was in third position, while for the turn of the year, it takes first place in the ranking, with 14,2%, followed by Lisbon (10,8%) and New York (7,7.
