What is known so far about Prigozhin's crashed Embraer plane?

Last Wednesday (23/08), the Embraer Legacy 600 jet, belonging to the mercenary Yevgeny Prigozhin, became the center of attention after a serious accident, which ended up killing Prigozhin and nine other people.

Two days after the enigmatic crash, several rumors emerged about the causes, with opinions ranging from intentional downing by Russia itself to a technical problem with the aircraft. 

What is known so far is that Prigozhin's Legacy 600 (RA-02795) no longer had Embraer since 2019, a situation that worsened after Russia went to war with Ukraine, and thus, Prigozhin's plane was directly affected by sanctions from Western countries and the United States, making it impossible for Embraer to provide any or transfer of parts. 

Images and videos that are circulating on social networks show the abrupt spiral descent of the Embraer jet, increasing rumors that the executive plane may have been intentionally shot down. New images revealed that the wing and landing gear were found in the vicinity of the Lodyzhenka River, about 3 kilometers from the wreckage of the aircraft.

In the face of uncertainty about why the Legacy crashed, anonymous US intelligence sources said there is a very high probability that the explosion on the Legacy was caused internationally, as reported by the Associated Press

"Embraer became aware of the accident that occurred with the Legacy 600 today in Russia, but so far it does not have further information about the case. The company has been complying with international sanctions imposed on Russia, leading to the suspension of the plane's service since 2019.".

What Cenipa said

According to information from the Poder 360 portal, until last Thursday (24th), Russia had still not communicated the crash of the Embraer Legacy 600 to Cenipa. Cenipa (Center for Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents) also issued a note, explaining that Russia should initiate preliminary investigations by the agency Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC), so that Cenipa (representing Embraer) can provide some in the course of the investigation, check the note:

“At this 1st moment, it is up to the IAC (Interstate Aviation Committee), a Russian agency, to gather official preliminary information and communicate it to Cenipa, the Brazilian aeronautical accident investigation body and representative of the State of design and manufacture of aircraft produced by Embraer, for monitoring the occurrence and providing any technical that that agency deems necessary for conducting the investigation”.
