Why is an ATR in Cubana colors in Brazil?

Cuban ATR Aerogaviota

Earlier this week, some readers told us about the arrival of an ATR 42-500 with registration number CU-T1240 from Aerogaviota, but after all, why is this turboprop in Brazil?

Interestingly, before coming to Brazil, this aircraft from Cuba made two technical stops in Caracas and Manaus, before arriving at its destination, in Brasília.

Despite being from Aerogaviota, this ATR is currently painted by Cubana de Aviación, the main state-owned operator in Cuba, which makes its operation in Brazil even rarer.

After consulting sources on the subject, we were informed that the rare ATR is undergoing a maintenance check at the JF Aircraft hangar, on the outskirts of Brasilia airport. In addition to the ATR, Brasília airport is also handling another rare aircraft for maintenance, it is a Boeing 727 from Asas Linhas Aéreas.

With almost 21 years of operation of this ATR, it is quite common that the heavier routine maintenance requests are made more frequently. Another interesting fact is that Aerogaviota, born in 1994, was founded by the Cuban army, but today performs domestic operations for Jamaica.

With these two special operations for the federal capital, Brasília tends to become a major center for aircraft maintenance, even more so with the new installation of GOL Aerotech in the old TransBrasil hangar, increasing the possibility that other rare aircraft will appear in Brasília to scheduled maintenance.
