This Wednesday (20/01) Transport Canada, Canada's aviation authority, should authorize commercial flights with the Boeing 737 MAX again, after a series of updates by the manufacturer.
Even following some procedures already adopted by the Federal Aviation istration of the United States (FAA), in its certification issued in November, Transport Canada carried out its own assessment, with the purpose of further optimizing the safety criteria implemented in the 737 MAX.
The service bulletin that will be issued, and which has already been advanced by the agency before the initial release, will include the software and hardware updates cited by Boeing: Flight control system (Software-MCAS); From the flight control system wiring; And also extra alerts in the cockpit.
Training

On the other hand, since December, Transport Canada has been working with national companies to implement the new training recommendations for 737 MAX pilots, also following FAA standards, but with some minor changes.
Following in EASA's footsteps, the new training procedure includes a rule for pilots, if they deem it necessary, to disengage the autopilot, as well as the electrical trim controls, and fly the plane manually, even without MCAS errors. Pilots can also disable the stick-shaker to avoid distractions, via a set of circuit breakers.
This process is tested during Type D simulator training.
Like EASA, Transport Canada also wants to oblige airlines to install colored caps on stab trim controls, cited by the Aeroflap Portal Team Clicking here. The purpose is to make it easier to identify useful commands on the plane.
Maintenance, alterations and return to service
Airlines must perform maintenance on each aircraft to ensure it will operate safely once the aircraft has been in storage for some time.
In addition, during this maintenance, technicians can still identify the problems cited by Boeing, such as the issue of wiring and electromagnetic isolation of the engine.
As mentioned in the video below, recorded on the return of the 737 MAX to GOL, all mechanics are carrying out this procedure in parallel with the implementation of software updates.
We can even say that the software update is super-easy to do, close to the other two procedures. But that you will check in the video above.
Transport Canada still wants to follow EASA and adopt a unique warning in the head-up of the plane, the part of the upper and near the M, about the actuation of the MCAS system. In this case, the pilots are visually aware of the data discrepancy between the angle of attack sensors.
However, this update will not be implemented at this time. Boeing will deliver new software with the modifications requested by Transport Canada and EASA only in late 2021.
Air Canada, WestJet and Sunwing Airlines are the only Canadian airlines to have taken delivery of the 737 MAX to date.
Transport Canada stated that airlines are implementing the necessary measures and “will be ready for the aircraft to return to service in the coming days and weeks”. Good, WestJet said it would return to flying the MAX as soon as possible.
Air Canada has already launched a special page to instruct customers who do not wish to fly on the 737 MAX. you can check Clicking here.
