Next Sunday (6), starting at 10 am, the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) will be responsible for the ceremony to exchange the National Flag, at Praça dos Três Poderes, in Brasília (DF). The event is part of the celebrations of Aviator's Day and Brazilian Air Force Day, celebrated in allusion to October 23, 1906, when Alberto Santos-Dumont made the first flight of the heavier-than-air aircraft. This year, there will also be a tribute to the 120th anniversary of the birth of Air Marshal Casimiro Montenegro Filho, Patron of Aeronautical Engineering and founder of the Technological Institute of Aeronautics.
The ceremony will feature a flyover by aircraft from the Air Demonstration Squadron (EDA), better known as the Smoke Squadron, and a parade of troops, which will be made up of the Scout Group of the Brasília Security and Defense Group; the Music Band of the FAB Symphony Orchestra (OSFAB); the group of historical flags; the Santos-Dumont Ceremonial Company; and the groups representing military personnel from the Force.
During the pavilion replacement, to the sound of the National Anthem and the Anthem to the Flag, there will be a 21-gun salute. The event will also feature a presentation by OSFAB. Also, from 9 am to 12 pm, participants will be able to visit the aircraft model exhibition and the FAB institutional stand, in addition to interacting with the children's characters Fabinho and Dumonzinho.
Changing of the Flag – Measuring 186 square meters and weighing 90 kilos, the National Flag is hoisted to the top of the 110-meter-high flagpole. The flag is located near the Planalto Palace, the National Congress and the Supreme Federal Court. It remains hoisted 24 hours a day and can be seen from various points in the federal capital. The flag is changed monthly, in a rotation that involves the Armed Forces, the Military Police and the Fire Department of the Federal District.
