With Video: RAF Eurofighters Typhoon and Norwegian F-35A Lightning II intercept Russian TU-142MK

Footage released by the Russian Ministry of Defense shows one of its Tu-142MK ASW maritime patrol planes being intercepted by some RAF fighters and the RNoAF (Norwegian Air Force). The Russian navy aircraft was flying in international airspace when it was intercepted by the aircraft.

In the video we can see beyond the interesting contra-rotating propeller of the TU-142, RAF Eurofighter Typhoon fighters approaching the patrol plane. Another curious fact was the participation of F-35A fighters from the Norwegian air force, as soon as the patrol plane got close to Norwegian airspace, the RNoAF sent F-16 and F-35 fighters. However, the F-35As do not appear very clearly in the images, but they did intercept the Russian plane and this was “celebrated” by a lieutenant general from Norway.

“I am glad that the F-35 now contributes to understanding the situation and presence in our immediate areas. Our fighters can now look after Iceland and home. It shows that we have taken important and important steps to gain operational benefits from the F-35,” said Lieutenant General Rune Jakobsen, commander of the Armed Forces Operational Headquarters.

However, the TU-142 was not alone with him being an IL-78 tanker and a MIG-31 FoxHound interceptor fighter also appear in the video.

In addition, both RAF and RNoAF aircraft made images and s with Russian aircraft, and everything continued as normal, as there was no invasion by the Russians of English and Norwegian airspace.
