Zurich Airport wins auction and acquires Natal Airport in the 1st bid for a terminal in Brazil

The auction for the São Gonçalo do Amarante Airport in Natal (NAT) has just ended, the auction was won by the Zurich Airport concessionaire, represented by Necton Investimentos, which lasted just over 50 minutes.

Zurich Airport won the competition with NK 230 Investimentos, which was represented by Nova Futura. The value of the auction for Natal Airport was R$ 320.000.012,00, representing a of 41,00%.

The São Gonçalo do Amarante Airport auction in Natal was held between the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) and B3 in São Paulo and was attended by authorities, representatives of Inframérica and the Secretary of Civil Aviation.

With the capacity to receive 6 million engers per year, the airport was the first in Brazil to be awarded to the private sector, in 2011. The objective of the auction is to select the most advantageous proposal, based on the criterion of the highest initial contribution offered for the expansion , maintenance and operation of the airport for a period of 30 years. The minimum bid was set at R$226,9 million.

Zurich Airport already operates in Brazil through the concession of the airports of Macaé, Vitória, Florianópolis, as well as other airports in Latin America such as Bogotá, Curaçao, Iquique and Antofagasta.

The company also participates in the management of Confins International Airport in Belo Horizonte through a t participation with CCR Aeroportos.

The return of the terminal by Inframerica, the company that bought it in 2013, was communicated in early 2020. The company will also file a claim for compensation based on Law 13.448/2017, which provides for the amicable return of concessions and the future rebidding. The consortium calculates an investment estimate of 700 million, without updating values ​​according to inflation.

In accordance with Law 13.448, the request for the return of Natal Airport was initially forwarded to ANAC and then to the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Partnership and Investment Program (PPI) to formalize the regulatory procedures for the auction to take place almost three years after the official communication from Infrarica.
