LATAM Brasil will begin operating the direct flight Macapá-São Paulo/Guarulhos this Sunday, October 27. The new route, which connects Amapá directly to the Southeast region, has been highly sought after by engers, ing 100% occupancy on its inaugural flight and 80% average occupancy in the first week. This is LATAM's third regular operation at Macapá airport, which already has flights to Belém and Brasília.
With four weekly flights, the Macapá-São Paulo/Guarulhos route will operate on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The route will last approximately 4 hours on Airbus A320 family aircraft, which can accommodate 140 to 216 engers, depending on the model. LATAM expects to transport 57 engers per year on the route, with tickets for which are available for purchase at latam.com.
"We are committed to increasingly democratizing aviation in Brazil, and to this end, one of our goals is to expand our domestic air network, increasing connectivity within the country. With the new route, engers from Amapá will now have greater connectivity to 50 destinations in Brazil and 24 in other South American countries from Guarulhos Airport.", Explain Aline Mafra, Director of Sales and Marketing at LATAM Brazil.
LATAM's investment in the new route, it is worth highlighting, is part of the company's efforts with the state government of Amapá to reduce the ICMS (Tax on Circulation of Goods and Services) on aviation fuel.
Brothers from Amapá pilot the inaugural flight of the new route
Considering the importance of the new Macapá-Guarulhos route for the state of Amapá, LATAM has selected a pair of pilots from Amapá who are brothers for the inaugural flight, as a way to celebrate this milestone. Captain Felipe Lima and First Officer Pedro Lima will pilot the Airbus A320 aircraft on its first trip on the route, which is scheduled to depart São Paulo/Guarulhos at 7:40 am this Sunday (27) and return on the same day from Macapá at 12:05 pm.
“Those from Macapá know the importance of this new route, providing a direct connection to São Paulo, something very important for those who need to travel for work or leisure, in addition to the positive economic impact it will generate for our state. Being chosen to make this inaugural flight alongside my brother is a unique opportunity. It will be our first flight together. Our father is also a pilot, and we are seeing this opportunity as the fulfillment of several family dreams, a remarkable moment”, comment Pedro Lima, first officer on the inaugural flight of LATAM's Macapá-Guarulhos route.
